1. WUDC 2012-2013 Update
Congratulations to our worlds teams for doing exceptionally well in Berlin! LSE A, comprising of Jonathan Kay and Yuan Yang, made it to the octofinals and did LSE immensely proud. LSE B (Ariela Silberstein and Vanessa Lim) as well as LSE C (Samantha Si and Rachael Quah) also made it to live rooms in the final preliminary round. A big thank you to our judges, Kenan Ceylan and Carlo Cabrera, for accompanying the teams. As a result of the excellent showing at this year's worlds, LSE has now moved up to 12th spot in the World University Debate Rankings (http://idebate.org/wudc/rankings). Congratulations to everyone who made this possible and massive thanks to the LSE Annual Fund for their invaluable support to our Worlds Teams! 2. Tournament Registration for Lent Term
If you are interested in taking part in any debate tournaments this term, please refer to this form http://www.lsedebate.org/2013/01/lent-term-tournament-registration.html and fill it out accordingly. Information about tournament dates can also be found at the given link. This term, we are seeking to give our novices more experience and exposure to debate competitions; so if you are a novice, we encourage you to sign up!

3. Crash Registration for LSE Open
The LSE Open is happening on 16 and 17 February this year. It is the society's flagship event and attracts excellent teams from over the UK as well as internationally. We are looking for people who are willing to host these teams by providing them with accommodation (aka 'crash') over the course of the aforementioned dates. Other societies have graciously hosted us in the past, so it would be great if our members could extend the same courtesy to them. All crash hosts will be entered in a raffle where the lucky winner will receive a great prize from our convenors, Sam and Danny. This is on top of the excellent socials that all crash hosts will be invited to, where food and drink are aplenty!
To sign up, please fill in this form: http://www.lsedebate.org/2013/01/lse-open-crash.html Thank you!

4. Debate and Cake
The society is hosting a fun pro-am debate on Thursday in CLM1.01 at 6:30pm, where cake will be provided for everyone present. A pro-am is a debate where novice speakers will be paired up with more experienced ones, with the aim of learning something from the latter. We promise a fun motion and lots of food! Everyone who is keen to speak is welcome to attend. See you all there!

5. Novice Training
Novice training will be taking place this Tuesday in CLMG.03 at 6:30pm. Danny will be talking about how to debate from first principles. There will be a practice debate, followed by a quick trip to the pub. Everyone is welcome to attend!

6. Lord of the Rings Internal Cup
The debate society is famed for hosting themed debates. Last year, we organised the Gringotts Bank Severus Snape Memorial Cup which featured Harry Potter themed debates. This year, in line with the recent release of The Hobbit, we're holding a Lord of the Rings Cup for all diehard fans and debaters who have an inkling of what the trilogy is about. The tournament will be taking place on Tuesday, 5 Feb at 6:30pm. The winners stand to walk away with attractive (and precioussss) prizes. Fancy dress is encouraged if you'd like to earn extra points for enthusiasm! More details about how to register will be released soon.

7. Valentine's Day Cup
Looking for a Valentine's date? Then waste no time in signing up for the Valentine's Day Cup, a hilarious debate society tradition of sorts! This year, it's happening on Tuesday, 12 Feb. We promise a close-to-perfect matchmaking algorithm and romantic prizes for the winning couple. If you'd like to debate with your significant other or someone who isn't a member of the debate society, that's fine by us too! By participating, you'll be contributing to a good cause because all proceeds from this tournament will go to charity. More details about how to register will be released soon.

8. London IV 2013
Thank you to all judges, volunteers and LSE debaters for making the recently concluded London IV possible! Your presence and contributions were essential in ensuring the smooth running of the tournament. We look forward to your continued support at future LSE-run events!

Have a great week ahead!
