News Update: Week 6

Welcome to week 6 of the Michaelmas term!
Before we enumerate the weekly news, we would like to give a quick shout to all those society members who have not yet joined us for society-related activities... Do! We look forward to seeing old and new faces at the various upcoming events. The more the merrier!

First off, congratulations to the following teams who will be representing the society at Worlds this winter. A big cheer goes out to
LSE A - Jonathan Kay and Yuan Yang
LSE B - Vanessa Lim and Ariela Silberstein
LSE C - Samantha Si and Rachael Quah
They will be accompanied by two fabulous judges, Carlo Cabrera and Kenan Ceylan.

Second on the list, the Cambridge IV! Happening this weekend from Friday afternoon (16 November) to Saturday night (17 November). It is one of the most prestigious debating competitions around and has attracted the participation of many international teams. We have speaking slots available. Drop the committee an email at lsedebate@gmail.com to inform us of your interest. Think you may want to judge? Also send us an email! The society has taken care of accommodation and registration fees, so participants will only have to cover the costs of their transport to Cambridge. For more information on the IV and the schedule, please refer to http://www.cambridgeiv.com/
The schedule of the competition is as follows:

The English Speaking Union John Smith Memorial Mace tournament is happening next weekend, Saturday 24 November. All interested participants who would like to debate or judge are encouraged to send the committee an email at lsedebate@gmail.com. Please sign up only if you are available the whole day.

This week's novice training will be taking place on Tuesday in CLM 1.01 at 6:30pm. By popular demand, Danny will be conducting a session on debate prep and what to do during the 15 minutes before every debate. This will be followed by a practice debate.

Experienced training will be held on Thursday at 6:30pm in CLM 1.02. Louise will be giving a presentation about the Eurozone and debates pertaining to that. There will be a practice debate after that.

LSE will be holding a competition for schools debaters on Saturday, 8 December. We require your help as judges and runners. It promises to be a day of engaging and lively debates, so mark your calendars!

Have a good week ahead!
