Week 5 MT Update

The LSESU Debate Society has a very busy two weeks ahead, so listen up keen debaters, there is an opportunity to get involved at any level. Hopefully there is something for a future world champion and someone who has barely debated. A massive thank you to Jon Kay for running advanced training on judges. This week LSE Novice Training will take place in 32L.G.03 on Tuesday at 6.30 and advanced training will take place in 32L.LG.04 on Thursday at 6.30.  As ever there will be a pub trip.


NOVICE CUP: 



This will be held on the 5th November 2016 for all novices. This means any first-year university debater. Novice Cup is an opportunity for all to fight it out for the best novice at LSE. There will be three rounds followed by a final. This will be an informal competition and is always lots of fun. Please do sign up and we will send updates.

11.15-13.00: Round one
13.00-13.45: Lunch
13.45-15.30: Round two
15.30-17.15: Round three
17.30-19.00: Final and Dinner
19.00-late: Social. 

World University Debating Championship Trials:

World University Debating Championship 2017 is taking place from the 27th Decemebr to 4th January. It is quite simply the biggest debating competition on the face of the earth and provides you with an opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures as well as debate against the best debaters from around the world and this is your chance to get selected and participate. The trials for WUDC's take place on the 6th of November, 2016. The venue details will be provided later however the sign up form is up and can be accessed here. 

Advanced Internal Debate Competition:

Rather than holding Experienced training on the 3rd November, there will be a three round internal competition held on the Wednesday 2nd November. This is designed for people to prepare for WUDC trials held on the Sunday and there will be a chance to speak with a variety of people and positions. Even if you are not planning to trial for world, we still recommend attending if you want to practice debating.
Priority will be given to those trailing for WUDC on the Sunday. The sign up form can be seen here.

SOAS IV: 

Congratulations to the duo of Ciarra Mitchell and Brynne Guthrie (LSE Pride) for their excellent performance at the weekend reaching the final of the SOAS IV after breaking 4th to the quarter-finals. They surely lived up to their team name and made all of us proud. Congratulations to Sarah Tay and Hannah Tyndall (LSE Wrath) for breaking to the quarter-final! A shout out to Razzaq Faizal and Clara Rupf for breaking as judges at this highly competitive tournament. The tab for the tournament can be seen here.
