Meet the Committee

 PRESIDENT      Keshav Arvind

Originally hailing from Edinburgh, Keshav is a third year
Philosophy, Politics and Economics student. Keshav has been
debating for a bit too long now having done the activity in
high school and throughout his time at university. When not
involved in the society, Keshav has taught debate in
underprivileged schools in London as well as spending two
months last summer coaching in Shanghai. He is currently
the debate coach at Westminster School. Aside from debating
Keshav enjoys playing and watching cricket though he has
long since given up his dream of going pro. If you have any
questions about the society please get in touch with him.

VICE PRESIDENT     Bareera Bullo

Bareera is a second year Social Policy with Politics student
from Pakistan. Prior to her new role, she was a fresher’s
representative for the year 2018/19 and is looking forward
to making this year just as enjoyable and thrilling for the
members as it was for her the year before! Having spent an
unacceptable amount of weekends debating, she is aware of
how indulging the activity can be and is excited to have the
soc - in addition to being a great platform for developing
public speaking skills- one for all to learn ingenious ideas,
enjoy fun socials and make incredible friends at university!

TREASURER     Eóin McCorkindale

Eóin is a third year BSc Economics student from Northern
Ireland. He has been on the debate committee for the last two
years. After running a whacky extension in the LSE Novices
final he became hooked on debate. His aspirations include
becoming an academic and having his name spelled correctly.

SECRETARY     Mythili Mishra

Mythili is a second year Law student from New Delhi, India.

Before coming to LSE, she got a degree in Political Science.

She has been debating for a while now, and her obsession

with the activity is quite clear from the fact that she has

decided to make it her future career. Feel free to contact her

for help with Marxist or feminist (or Marxist-feminist) cases

for your next debate competition!

TRAINING OFFICER     Abhinav Bathula

Abhinav is one of the Training Officers of the LSESU Debate
Society for the 2019/20 academic year. He is a second year
Politics and Economics student from Chennai, India.
Abhinav has been debating for over 4 years, starting back in
high school in Manila, the Philippines. A former debater for
the Philippine national team, he continues to help the team
from afar aside from his duties as Training Officer.

TRAINING OFFICER     Cheyenne Ong

Cheyenne is a 2nd year History and IR student. She debated
for a couple of years in Singapore - where she's from - and
has since fallen into the rabbit hole of debating. Her fondness
for it stems from how it connects her to people with similar
interests (who also enjoy engaging in arguments just for fun).
Outside of debating, however, she loves going to the beach
and she's done Chinese martial art for a long time (but
concedes she will likely just run away in a fight).

EXTERNAL TOURNAMENTS DIRECTOR     Milton Wong

Milton is a second year Politics and International Relations
student from Singapore. After a hiatus, he rejoined debating
for the thrill of stumbling across ideas and arguments he
finds relevant for everyday life, and for the dear friends he
has found in the community. In his free time, Milton enjoys
volunteering, and has furthered this interest as Secretary of
LSESU Students for Children Society. Milton will join
Singapore’s foreign service after graduation.

SOCIAL SECRETARY     Josh Freeman

Though doing a four-year degree means there is almost

nobody left from when Josh was a fresher, it has also allowed

him to get to know the society pretty well. This is Josh's

fourth year in LSE Debate and third as a member of the

committee, having previously been Vice President and Social

Secretary the year before. He also convened the inaugural

LSE Asians in 2018. Outside of debating, Josh founded LSE's

Quiz Club and will start work as a teacher when he graduates

in 2020.

EQUITY AND OUTREACH OFFICER     Ella Holmes

Ella is a third year Government student who has taken on the
role of Equity Officer for a second year. She is always
available for a chat with any member of the society and will
act as an advocate on their behalf on the committee. A big fan
of arguing with people, she also values debates taking place
with mutual respect and friendliness. She’s looking forward
to running more sessions on wellbeing and inclusion this
year.

SPONSORSHIP OFFICER     Labeeb Hussain

Labeeb is a third-year student studying Politics and
International Relations. He was born in Dhaka, went to
primary school in London, and then attended an
international secondary school in Bangkok before coming to
the LSE. Outside his involvement in LSE Debate, Labeeb
enjoys singing with his acapella group and organizing events
with the International Relations society.

PUBLIC DEBATE OFFICER     Matthew Bradbury

Matthew is a second year student studying Economics.
Matthew comes from Newcastle, and to make up for his lack
of accent likes to prove himself by mentioning his heritage at
any given opportunity. Matthew began debate in highschool
as a way to get free trips to visit friends in different British
cities, and in his gap year continued debate as a way to get
free trips to visit friends in different Chinese cities. Once at
University, he realised everyone ended up in London so he
stopped competitive debate and started organising social
events to try detract from the reputation of a pure economics
student; after that failed, as public debate officer he can be
found answering How High when Hamza tells him to Jump.

PUBLIC DEBATE OFFICER     Hamza Tariq Chaudhry

Hamza is a Second Year IR Student from Pakistan. He has
previously served on the committee as training officer and is
looking forward to organising public debates this year -
attended by important stakeholders on issues of importance
to the world. He hopes that members acquire crucial
knowledge on important issues and apply it elsewhere.
Hamza has additionally been on the WSDC team Pakistan
and is currently co authoring a book on Pakhtun Tribes. Be
sure to catch Hamza outside the library for a chat on just
about anything and particularly on how to further efforts to
lend voices to the voiceless❤️ Check the Facebook page for
more details of our first Public Debate, where two high
profile public figures will be debating Brexit!
