MT Week 3 Update

Thanks to everyone who attended an LSE Debate Event this week.

NOVICE TRAINING:
Novice training in week 3 covered burdens in a debate. There was discussion of the free speech and the burdens needed to ban activities, such as art which promotes social disgust, inheritance and violent video games. There was then a debate on whether the SU should no-platform speakers at universities.

ADVANCED TRAINING:
We are held a session where Gavin O'Leary spoke about Strategy, followed by a debate about regretting the decline of the price of oil. If only having the fifth best speaker in Europe 2016 wasn't enough for you last week, Gavin was the third best speaker in EUDC in 2015. However, if you seek perfection in experienced training 100%  Jon Kay will be giving a judging workshop this week.

IMPERIAL OPEN AND IMPERIAL NOVICES

The peformance at the weekend by LSE debate society members were once again pretty decent. Congratulations to our President, Hannah Tyndall, for breaking at 3rd and ranking as the 5th best speaker at highly competitive Imperial Open. Our alumni Daniel Bramble was the eventual winner. The delegation debated negative income tax, whether Saudi Arabia should sell shares in Armco and nationalising SpaceX. There is a photo of some of the LSE delegation eating Pizza at the Imperial Open.

LSE speakers were ranked in the top ten speaker list at Imperial Novice hence a big shout out to Michael Fiedorowicz( 6th), Felix Farley (9th) and Seow Wei Liang (9th) for their performance. They debated the value of tiger parenting and whether teacher's unions can veto education policy. Congratulations to Ciarra MitchellRazzaq Fazail and Connie Lee for breaking as judges at imperial novice as well. The tab for Imperial Open can be seen here and Imperial Novices here.
