Lent Term 2014: Week 4 and 5
Hi everyone,
It’s
the Valentine’s week and there’s nothing more romantic than debating frankly with
your (potential) significant other on some genuine matters of the heart….or if
not, let the algorithm work it out for you.

1. Valentine’s Day Cup
Valentine's Day Cup is the perfect chance for
you to pair up with that special someone and show them how much you care (by
evenly distributing your substantive points and maybe even sharing a rebuttal
or two). This year’s Valentine’s Day Cup was held on Tuesday, 11 February
and all proceeds from registration went to charity. We had many eager participants,
either with their current significant other or at the mercy of our
almost-perfect matchmaking algorithm to be paired with a highly compatible
potential mate. Everyone had a lot of fun debating on quirky motions on romance
and relationships, like ‘This House Believes in Bros before Hos’ and ‘This
House Would Text’. Congratulations on Ben and Alice for winning the competition
with their witty and entertaining take on the motions!
2. LSE Open
LSE Open is now closer than ever! On
15-16 February, we will be hosting our flagship tournament of the year. All of
our members are welcome to come and help out during the competition. We welcome
everyone, even if you haven't joined our events before. We reward our
volunteers with free dinner and wine in addition to two great socials during
the weekend! We still have
international debaters coming in who are looking for crash spaces. If you

This is the biggest tournament that we host
and brings in some of the best debaters in the world! We appreciate all
the help we can get from members who can come down to do running and judging.
