Michaelmas Term 2013: Week 5

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a lovely week,
We have some debate updates from MT week 5:
1.       Durham IV
2.       Tuesday Training Session
3.       Thursday Collaboration with the MUN Society
4.       ESU Mace 23-24 November

1. Durham IV
Congratulations to Dan Berman on winning Durham IV and topping the speaker tab!

2. Tuesday Training Session
This week's novice training session was held on Tuesday. The session was dedicated on how to deliver an effective summation. We had an interesting round of practice debates on the motion 'This house believes that in criminal court cases the jury should be comprised of individuals form the same racial and socio-economic background as the defendant'.

3. Thursday Collaboration with the MUN Society

Thursday's experienced training session was a collaboration with the MUN society. We had a short training session with our LSE Debate alumni Samuel Joynson before the exhibition debate with the MUN Society. LSE Debate Society representatives, Rachael Quah, John Kay, Abel Lam and Daniel Bramble debated against the MUN representatives on the motion 'This house believes that the United Nations has failed'. It was great to see many of our members enjoying and engaging themselves throughout the debate as the debaters received some stimulating questions from the audiences!

4. ESU Mace
Sign-ups for the ESU Mace tournament happening 23-24 November are open on the website. http://www.lsedebate.org/p/sign-ups.html

Have a great week!
